TITLE I READING

Title 1 is a Federally funded remedial reading program serving students in Kindergarten, First, Second, and Third Grades at North River Elementary School.  Students are enrolled through a referral from the classroom teacher.  Referrals are based upon PALS test scores, or  Qualatative Reading Inventories, and teacher observation.

Students receive a variety of teaching strategies which include SOL reading strategies, phonics, Darrell Morris strategy of read/reread, Read Naturally method, reading games, computer, and listening to good literature.  The classroom teachers provide Title 1 with a Pacing Guide which tells what SOL is being taught and when.  This allows Title 1 to do reading lessons based on the same SOL.

Parents are encouraged to read with their child regularly.  Books are sent home by the classroom teacher and sometimes by Title 1.  Title 1 also offers programs throughout the year for parents to be involved in.  These programs can be county wise or just for North River students.  Please watch for notices to be sent home with your child.
