Dear Parents and Friends of Cassell,
Welcome to Hugh K. Cassell Elementary School! Arriving at our campus you will notice the Blue Ridge Mountains provide a spectacular natural backdrop for our school. Keeping our school in excellent condition is very important to us. We encourage our students to be good citizens and stewards. This year we will continue our successful school-wide positive discipline program. Children of all ages will have the chance to earn “Cassell Keys” for being responsible, respectful and safe learners. These “keys” may be used to “buy” special privileges.
A native of the area, I attended Augusta County Public Schools as a child graduating from Fort Defiance High School. My college experiences extended from Bridgewater College to James Madison University to University of Virginia. In May 1997, I was awarded a Doctor of Education Degree from The University of Virginia. I have had a wide range of educational experiences. After teaching at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in Augusta County, I taught at Bridgewater College for three years. I have been a school administrator for over 18 years years at Luray, Grove Hill, and Beverley Manor Elementary Schools. I have enjoyed teaching graduate level classes at Mary Baldwin University and mentoring graduate students at Eastern Mennonite University.
The PTO is a vital part of our school program. Our Parent Teacher Organization has volunteered hundreds of hours for the school. They have provided thousands of dollars to fund technology, the artist-in-residence program, literacy, playground improvements, and the list goes on. Did you realize that the PTO generates over $30,000.00 per year? We urge all parents, grandparents, and other significant adults to become active PTO members.
We anticipate that this will be the best year yet for our school community. If you have any questions or concerns regarding school policies or your child please let us know. By working together we will ensure that all children are winners.
