Assistive Technology
I am very excited about beginning a new phase of my career. This year I will be working with high incidence disabilities teachers and students. I have a lot to learn, but look forward to the challenge! I will be serving all 21 schools in our district.
Instructional Technology
For 7 years, I served Augusta County as an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher. Through that job, I worked with the elementary teachers and students. It was great! I will miss all the contact with the regular ed teachers, but I am enjoying getting to know the special ed folks better!
Through my position as an ITRT, I helped create the special interest group for the Virginia Society of Technology in Education called TIVA (Technology Integrators in Virginia). That was a great experience. I also served as a representative of Shenandoah Valley Technology Consortium.
Beyond Augusta County
Currently, I am working with James Madison University and Microsoft Corporation partnership for 21st skills as their Virtual Communities Of Practice (VCOP) Manager. This allows me to work with NEST *T certified teachers who are ready to make the next step in their professional development.
My career in education began after I graduated from JMU and got a job in North Carolina (my home state) teaching 6th grade. Luckily, I was able to returned to Virginia and taught 3rd grade at Stuarts Draft Elementary and coach the boy's tennis team at Fort Defiance High School. My next school was Clymore Elementary in 3rd grade as well and I continued coaching. I stayed at Clymore until I took a position as an ITRT while completing my Masters in Education in Computers. I truly enjoy being able to work with students and teachers in technology. To see excitement in their eyes as they discover something new is awesome!
Family
My husband and I live in Mount Sidney with our two sons....Gabe is in third grade and Grayson is 4 and a spitfire! David owns his own furniture and cabinet shop. He has been on his own for 11 years. He enjoys working on his own so that he can go and eat lunch with the boys on most days.
We are outdoor folks and enjoy camping, hiking, fishing, tennis, swimming and just about anything else outside when we get to do it together.
