    Reading Intervention 


        Goals of instruction include: 

    • equipping students with decoding strategies and word attack skill to assist students with increasing fluency (reading rate). 
    •   teaching strategic reading across the curriculum (A variety of genres are used to give students the opportunity to have exposure to different texts so they can adapt to this variation in other classes and promote lifelong reading.
    •   applying and using strategies to improve comprehension. Demonstration in class and modeling leads to "ownership" of these strategies that assists with growth in reading.
    •   creating an environment that motivates and involves students in meaningful literacy activities using high interest materials.
    •   providing individualized instruction to meet the individual needs and abilities of the students.
    •   incorporating  writing, especially in response to text with the goal of making meaning and extending the learning process. 
    1. **Computer reinforcement compliments and extends the learning of acquired skills/reading instruction as well as provides additional practice with fluency, comprehension, and accompanies best literacy practices in the classroom so students can be more proficient at reading.
