The Nursing Assistant Training Program for long-term care consists of a minimum of 120 hours of training separated in two (2) distinct parts. They are: 80 hours of classroom instruction and 40 hours of clinical practice. All nurse aides assist with the care of patients under the supervision of licensed health care workers such as nurses and physicians. Most have completed a nurse aide training program. Certified Nurse Aides (CNA) are those persons who have completed an approved nurse aide training program, have passed the state competency test, and have been issued a certificate by the Virginia Board of Nursing. “Certified Nurse Aide” is a legal title. Only persons who have met these requirements can use it.
