2019-2020 World Geography Syllabus
Instructor: Ian Kaye
The focus of this SOL course is the study of the world’s peoples, places, and environments with an emphasis on world regions. Spatial concepts of geography will be used as a framework for studying interactions between humans and their environment.
Using geographic resources, students will employ inquiry, research, and technology skills to ask and answer geographic questions.
Textbook: Geography: The Human and Physical World, McGraw Hill, 2018
The textbook will be available online and for download. Additional information will be shared with the student.
Materials Needed: Please bring these materials to class every day
- 3-Ring Binder
- Pencils or pens
- Colored Pencils
Grading: You will be graded based on the following (Per Augusta County Policy):
- Major Assessments (tests, projects, quizzes) 50%
- Minor Assessments (classwork, homework) 40%
- Practice/Participation 10%
Attendance and Make-Up Work:
In order for students to be successful, attendance is necessary. Please refer to the Augusta County Attendance Policy. Missed assignments for excused and unexcused absences need to to be completed within three days upon returning to school. After three days the work will be considered late and will result in a lower grade. It is the student’s responsibility to get all work missed!
Cheating, plagiarism, copying the work of another student, allowing another student to copy your work, or any other forms of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated! This will result in an immediate zero on the assignment, parent contact, and referral to an administrator.

Failure to meet these expectations can hinder success in the classroom and result in disciplinary actions.
