Hi! My name is Jessica Kirby. This year will be my ninth year teaching kindergarten. I am very excited about this year in kindergarten. Our theme this year is "a rainbow of possibilities" and I have so many new and exciting acitivities planned. Stuarts Draft has always been a place I love to call home! I grew up in Stuarts Draft and graduated from Stuarts Draft High School. I then continued my education at Bridgewater College. Once I graduated from Bridgewater College I knew that Stuarts Draft would be the place that I would like to come back to and start my family. My husband and I have been blessed with a sweet boy, Callen, who is now 4 years old and a baby girl, Leighton, who is 1. In addition to our children we have two fur babies. Their names are Diesel (9 yrs) and Brick (2 years). It has been a great summer filled with precious memories, fun and a lot of relaxation. I am beyond ready to jump into another fun filled school year at Guy K. Stump Elementary! I am looking forward to making meaningful relationships and becoming successful with every student in my class. Please feel free to contact me at any time!!
I recently attended a two day conference in Raleigh, NC that was all about getting books into children's hands and using the best practices to teach reading to students. The importance of children being read to and children reading on their own is HUGE at this level. Did you know that looking at just the pictures is a form of reading?? This is a skill that I try to instill in my students because reading can seem so defeating. It is important that children read books that are directed towards their reading level, but it is also important for children to be able to choose those harder interest books to read. My goal this year is for my students to have such a love for reading that they always want to have a book in their hand. It is also a goal at our school for the students to utilize not only our library, but the library in our community. Did you know that we have a library so close to our school? If you would like to be a "Book Pusher" along with me, you certainly can!! I have included a link to the scholastic website that has TONS of books for purchasing. I like to send a monthly flyer home with the kiddos so that you can help be a "Book Pusher". Our class has the opportunity to accumulate points from your purchases and that allows for me to choose books for our classroom. If you insert our classcode GW6MR, I will be able to submit your order and our class will get points. Also, if you have any books at home that you are looking to get rid of, I will gladly take them off of your hands!! Thank you for your help with being a "BOOK PUSHER"
Class Code: GW6MR
If you are looking for a way to help, please visit the link below. It is a wishlist that I have created on Amazon that includes different items that we could use in our classroom. Please do not feel like you have to purchase anything or if you do decide to purchase something, it does not have to be explicitly from Amazon. Thank you so much for all of your support!! I wouldn't be able to do it without you!
