Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Pat Coogan
Where did you go to school?
Blue Ridge-Associate Degree in Business
Mary Baldwin-Social Work/Sociology
James Madison-M. Ed. plus post graduate courses for LPC license and completed 1/2 of my supervision to be licensed.
Why did you choose this profession?
I was interested in child abuse and neglect since high school and completed several projects on the issue. I chose social work because I wanted to help children and families in need. In addition, because I knew it would always be a challenge, and I find people and their different life circumstances interesting and a learning experience.
What do you love about this profession?
Social Work gives you a new experience everyday and you meet all types of people. It is a great sense of accomplishment when I can help make a difference in one person's life (especially a child). I learn something new everyday from the people I work with. And to be honest, I am an adrenaline junkie and social work certainly provides that fix!!
