    This course is designed to give each student a firm foundation in Algebra 1.  Topics taught will include simplifying expressions, polynomials, radicals, inequalities, systems of equations and inequalities, linear functions, quadratic functions, rational functions, and statistics.

    Nine week grades will be determined by tests, quizzes, class grades, class work and homework.

    Tests are given at the end of each chapter and at the end of the semester as SOL practice.

    Class Grades are given daily and cover material on the previous nights homework.

    Quizzes are given in the middle and at the end of each chapter.

    Homework is assigned daily.  Homework is checked for completion and not graded unless annouced as a grade.

    Exam will given at the end of the semester and counts as 20% of the final grade.

    The Algebra 1 SOL will given at the end of the semester in May.

    Grade calculation:  Tests and Quizzes 50%

                                Class Grades 40%

                                Homework and Class Work 10%


    Supplies needed: pencil, notebook and a simple scientific calculator to use at home

    A graphing calculator will be assigned to each student for use in the classroom and on the SOL.  


    Extra help is available in class and before and after school.
