Functional is open to Juniors and Seniors who have already successfully completed Art I & Art II (with exceptions made on a case-by-case basis for Seniors who have completed at least Art 1). The course is an overview of functional art, a term encompassing a wide range of art forms that are not only aesthetically interesting, but are also beautiful. Students who should consider this class are those who are looking to try something new in art, and have fun!
We’ll move through several different units, drawing on your knowledge from previous art classes as well as learning new skills to create art that you can use! Units will include a variety of art forms such as fiber art, stained glass, ceramics, bookmaking, and more! Craftsmanship and effort will be an important part of this class, and we’ll also look at historical and contemporary functional art.
Students are expected to have the following supplies:
- Small 3-Ring Binder
- Drawing Pencils
- Pink Pearl or white Mead eraser
Optional (but highly recommended!)
- Set of colored pencils
- Black ink pens
- X-acto knife
- Glue sticks
Students will be provided with specialty materials as needed.
FUNCTIONAL ART WILL BE OFFERED EVERY OTHER YEAR. As it was most recently offered Spring 2020 semester, the next time it will be offered is during the 2021-2022 school year.
