    BUS DRIVER TRAINING CLASS

Pupil transportation plays an important role in the educational process.  Transporting children to and from school each day is a responsibility that requires good physical health, professionalism, emotional stamina, determination, dedication, and skill.  The main objective of any pupil transportation system is to transport passengers to and from school each day safely and efficiently.

The Augusta County Transportation Department is always looking for responsible and safe drivers for part-time and substitute driving.  When full time positions become available, these drivers will then have the opportunity to move to full time.

All interested persons must have a positive driving record and be of good moral character.  A person must be responsible, upstanding, and physically and mentally prepared for the driving task of transporting students. One must be even tempered.  Being neat, clean and properly dressed is a must.  Applicants must be free of the effects of alcohol, illegal drugs, and medication.  All applicants will be drug screened, fingerprinted and background checks performed.

All applicants must have their class B CDL Learners Permit with Air Brakes, Passenger, and School Bus endorsements prior to attending the Training Class. A CDL training manual can be picked up at your local DMV service center or here at the Transportation office at 146 Hornet Rd. Fishersville VA. The applicant can then complete our School Bus Driver Training Course or show proof of completion of such a course from another school division in Virginia. School Bus drivers must obtain at least a Class B CDL License with air-brakes, and Passenger Bus School Bus Endorsements.  The School Bus Driver Training Course is divided into three categories,  Classroom Instruction, Behind-the-wheel without students, and Behind-the-wheel with students.  Classroom minimum time is 24 hours and Behind-the-wheel minimum time is 24 hours for a total Training Time of 48+ hours.
