Congratulations to our Emerald Regiment Marching Band!

The Emerald Regiment competed in 5 competitions and the VBODA marching assessment this fall.  They took home the following awards:


Blast in the Draft

3rd place colorguard,1st place drum major, 2nd place band in class AAA


Shenandoah Valley Marching Invitational (Harrisonburg HS)

1st place band in class AAA, and 6th place in Finals against all bands


Lynchburg Classic

2nd place colorguard, 2nd place drum major, 3rd place band in class AAA


JMU Parade of Champions

9th place band in class AAA


Powhatan Fall Classic

3rd place general effect in class AAAA

Fall Student-Athlete News

It has been a great fall season for sports at Wilson!

Our Golf Team finished second in the District during the regular season and had a strong showing at the District tournament. 

The JV Volleyball team enjoyed a perfect season. The team went a perfect 16-0 during the season. 

Competition Cheer started slow but finished strong. They had a great showing at Districts which gained them a berth in the Regionals. At Regional’s they once again had a great performance, qualifying for States. At States they had their best performance of the year finishing in seventh place. 

Our Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams had amazing seasons. The Boys repeated as District Champs, won the Region, and finished fourth in the State Championships. The Girls also won the District for the third year in a row. They captured the Region Championship and on 11/10 won the State Championship. Stephen Good and Hannah Rose both won District and Regional titles. Hannah repeated as State Champion.

Finally our Varsity Football Team won the District Regular Season Championship outright for the first time in 34 years.

Academic Challenge Report

On Tuesday, 11/12, the Academic Challenge team continued their undefeated streak in a double win over Stonewall Jackson. Senior  David Casey led the team with 190 points, followed by Senior Bree Long with 80 points scored. The team will travel to Riverheads on Monday.


Calling all public speakers! The WMHS Forensics Team is forming for the 2012-13 school year! Forensics is a speaking competition team of the following categories: extemporaneous speaking, duo interpretation, short story telling, poetry, prose, serious and dramatic interpretations, and original oratory.

If you are interested in finding out more information about Forensics and how to proclaim your spot on the team, see Dr. Flippin in Room 34 for more details. Competitions begin in January 2013. There will be a mandatory informational meeting on Tuesday, December 4 in Room 34 @ 3:30 PM for any students interested in being on Wilson's speaking competition team. (This will be a brief meeting of no longer than 15 minutes!)
