The Augusta County Public School Board recognizes that physical and emotional wellness is essential to the successful learning process and promotes the healthy development of all students.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has designated by Section 204 of the Reauthorization Act (Public Law 108-265) to outline goals and objectives for each school division. This policy implementation plan will address:
- Goals for nutrition, education, physical activity, mental and emotional health, and other school-based activities to promote student wellness
- Goals for nutrition standards for all foods and beverages available during the school day, with the objective of promoting student health and reducing childhood obesity
- Goals for evaluation, planning and implementation of local policy, which will be established by an outlined time-line
- Goals for establishing a continuum of comprehensive programs, student services, and community resources (involving parents, administrators, and community professionals) which promote health development and student wellness
