Welcome to Second Grade!!!  I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year.  In second grade, you will see a tremendous amount of learning and growth in your child.  This year will be filled with lots of learning, activities, and fun. It will be productive and memorable year.

    I am starting my 26th year of teaching second grade at Churchville Elementary.  I love our school,  staff, kids and our second grade team! I live in Staunton with my husband, son Xander who is a senior at Buffalo Gap (Go Bison!!!) and my first puppy Melia! My oldest son Zachary is serving over seas in the Air Force.

    Homework Folders should be checked every night to see if anything is due the next day or on a future date. In addition, your child should read at least 15 minutes per school night---be sure to record those minutes on their reading calendar.

    Word Study Your child should also study their spelling words each night to be ready for the test. They will have 8 word study activities to complete at home and school during the week.
    Science Units
    germs, butterflies, animals, habitats, life cycles, matter, magnets, plants, weather, and weathering/erosion
    Social Studies Units
    communities, map skills (World and US),citizenship, Native Americans, Famous Americans , economics
    I hope this is helpful. I will be sending home information in written form or Dojo Messageswhich will keep you informed throughout the year. This communication will usually be in your child's homework folder or take home folder. Be on the lookout for our weekly classroom newsletters in the Take Home Folders.
