• Mrs. Alexander is in her 32nd year of teaching elementary school general music.  She is currently teaching full time at  North River Elementary School on week A and Clymore Elementary School on week B. Mrs. Alexander was once herself a student from the years 1969 – 1972.  She is a 1978 graduate of Fort Defiance High School where she served as one of the drum majors for the marching band in 1977.  She later was an active member of the James Madison University Marching Royal Dukes band playing the piccolo.  Mrs. Alexander majored in playing the oboe.  She was a member of the Wind Symphony, the JMU Symphony Orchestra and a woodwind quintet.  She graduated in 1982 with a Music Education degree.  During her teaching career, she has taught for the Morgan County, West Virginia school system, Rockingham and Augusta County Schools.  She also holds an Orff Level I certificate from JMU.  Mrs. Alexander has fun playing the flute, recorder, and singing soprano.

There are many facets of Mrs. Alexander’s job which she enjoys.  These include directing elementary school musicals, choral and Orff concerts.  For eight summers, she has worked with the Augusta County Schools Summer Arts Enrichment program as the music instructor.  Building and playing dulcimers from kits with students is a favorite. She has received her Clinical Faculty training and really likes meeting and  working with young aspiring music educators through EMU, JMU and Bridgewater College as a cooperating teacher for practicum and student teachers.  Mrs. Alexander will be working in the North River Elementary School After School Learning Center program again this year as the music enrichment instructor.

Being the mom of three lovely daughters is Mrs. Alexander’s greatest joy.  Susan, age 26, Morgan, age 24, and Allison, age 21, are all interested and talented in many areas.  When they were young, they all took violin lessons.  Loving all the fine arts, they are involved in the choral, band, art and drama programs.  They sing and play in their own band, Thieves Beware.  Mrs. Alexander has been married for 31 years.  Mr. Alexander also works for Augusta County Schools as the technology education teacher for Buffalo Gap High School.
