Welcome!
My name is Erica Kinder, and I am currently a Special Education teacher in the 4th and 5th grade here at Hugh K Cassell. I have the opportunity to work with many students in fifth grade. My favorite subject to teach is Math! During this summer, I was fortunate enough to be included in a training for Reading, and I have seen tremendous growth with my students. I have three daughters who also attend Hugh K Cassell: Isabella (4th grade), Caroline (2nd grade), and Aubrie (K). I am married to a French Canadian, so I travel to Quebec, Canada frequently.
I went to Radford University to get my undergraduate degree in Special Education. During my first few years of teaching at Buffalo Gap High School, I worked on and received my master's degree in special education. In 2011, I also recieved my administration endorsement in Educational Leadership through James Madison University. This year, I was accepted into the Aspiring Special Education Leaders Academy, which I attend two days per month. I am learning a wealth of information that I am bringing back and applying to my current practices here at Hugh K Cassell. Although this takes me from the classroom more than I prefer, I am hoping the positives will outweigh the negatives.
I do love my job, and I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the students that I do!
