• Although I am now a Hornet, I’m originally from West Virginia. I received a BA in English, an MA in Secondary Education from West Virginia University, and completed work on my Administrative Certificate at James Madison University.  I’m proud to be a fifth-generation school teacher with enough teachers and administrators in my family tree to staff an entire school. I have over 25 years of classroom experience, 20 of those as an English teacher at Buffalo Gap High School.  I’ve worked in several school systems as a colorguard instructor and still march with the WVU Alumni Band.

I live in Staunton with my husband, Mark, who works at Fort Defiance High School and our two dogs, Cooper and Ryleigh.  My two children, Colin and Conor Clark, are now grown and still live in the area. My sons are products of Augusta County Schools, so I am invested in the school system as an employee, a parent, and a community member.

I’ve had the opportunity to teach students from middle school age through college, but I most enjoy helping prepare teenagers to meet the bigger world. I appreciate the opportunity to share that task with such a talented staff, such supportive parents, and such a caring community. I have devoted my career to ensuring that students are equipped with a solid foundation of core skills necessary to ready them for their career pursuits. I will continue to emphasize developing skills in communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and citizenship.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns. I am elated to be a Hornet and look forward to many years in the Hive!

    Susan Mace
