Athletic Training involves the prevention, care, and management of sports related injuries.  As the Licensed, Certified Athletic Trainer here on staff at Fort Defiance High School, my primary responsibility is for the health care of the student athletes participating on our 31 junior varsity, and varsity athletic teams. I also enjoy teaching 2 elective Sports Medicine courses.

    Elective Courses offered:

Athletic Training I - Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries (Fall Semester), open to students grades 10-12.  This class is an introduction to Sports Medicine and Athletic Training. Students will have the opportunity to become certified in First Aid, CPR, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens. They will complete training in heat illness prevention, sudden cardiac death, sports nutrition, and concussions. Other topics include musculoskeletal anatomy, conditioning, recognition & management of sports injuries, taping and wrapping skills, and common injuries.

Athletic Training II - Emergency Medical Responder  (Spring Semester), open to Juniors and Seniors who are age 16 or older at the start of the class. Successful completion of this course certifies the student as an Emergency Medical Responder and is geared towards students with an interest in pursuing a career in emergency medicine or health care.

IMPORTANT INFO for  Parents & Students - I use Google Classroom as a platform to distribute many of the assignments, handouts, quizzes/tests for this class. We often have the Chromebook laptops in the classroom. While it is very helpful if the student has internet access at home via computer or at least via a smartphone, we can work around this on an individual basis. If ever you have concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!
