Another incredible group of elementary educators completed the four-day Responsive Classroom training last week!

This is an eager group of ACPS elementary educators who completed a four-day Responsive Classroom training.
Responsive Classroom is a philosophy that guides decisions teachers make in responding to students, the classroom environment that teachers create, and in how to teach content in meaningful, engaging, and integrated ways. It is grounded in believing the best in our students and their successes. Fun, significance, and belonging are the goal that each student experiences in a Responsive Classroom.
The language we use matters. How we teach matters. It matters so that we can support every child, every day!

This is a wonderful group of ACPS teachers who attended a 2-day workshop at BRCC hosted by V2CTM and led by Skip Tyler entitled #ChangeTheStory
Skip is promoting that everyone IS a MATH person and now is the time to #ChangeTheStory. Now is the time to shake up the system. Now is the time to make the change and to be the change. His purpose as a retired math teacher and math supervisor is to find the BETTER! It is to identify and encourage teachers to use instructional practices and strategies that we know work.
Not the new normal, the new BETTER!
ACPS Math is taking the charge to change how WE teach so that we are providing our students with high-quality, asset-based learning and #ChangeTheStory so Everyone Is A MATH Person!

From the FDHS FFA Advisors regarding their students' State Conference performance: We are so proud of our students! They work so hard and it definitely paid off!

Buffalo Gap and Stuarts Draft High Schools recently participated in our division's high school gifted education LEAD2 program challenge. This involved unique escape room kits that were designed to promote critical thinking and collaboration among students. The kits required players to use their creativity, team spirit, and powers of deduction to solve puzzles, collect objects, and crack codes in order to earn their freedom bit by bit. These escape room kits were modeled after the popular trend of "Escape Rooms" found around the country, where players work together to solve a series of puzzles using clues, hints, and strategies to literally "escape" from a locked room. As a conclusion to the challenge, the students visited Staunton, VA's Crack the Code Escape Room. The escape rooms were filled with challenging puzzles, thrilling moments, and exciting storylines. The students successfully escaped from 2 of the rooms and had a great time filled with laughter, rushing adrenaline, and fun stories!
