Augusta County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) has provided 11 School Resource Officers (SROs) to protect the students and staff of Augusta County Public Schools (ACPS)! We are so grateful for all they do to protect and positively contribute to our school communities!

Deputy Chad Marshall - Stewart Middle School

Prior to being a School Resource Officer, I worked as an Investigator for the Augusta County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division. There are many positive things about being a School Resource Officer, but one of the best things is encouraging students and building positive relationships. The Augusta County Sheriff's Office and its School Resource Officers are dedicated to making the schools a safer environment, building positive relationships, and engaging with the community.

Deputy Steve Davis - Fort Defiance High School & Clymore Elementary School

I served as a tanker in the Gulf War in Iraq, graduated JMU, taught high school history after college,  worked in business, and worked in "patrol" with the Waynesboro Police before coming to the Sheriff's Office. I enjoy working with children so that is one of the best things about being a School Resource Officer. We will do everything in our power to protect their children while they are in school.  There is nothing more important to a parent than the safety and well-being of their children.  We are here to protect their most valuable asset - their children.

Sergeant Chris Pultz - Riverheads High School & Riverheads Elementary Schools

Before becoming a School Resource Officer, I was a K-9/Patrol Deputy. Building a positive relationship between law enforcement and students is one of the best things about being a School Resource Officer. The Sheriff places school resource officers in the schools not only to keep them safe but also to build a positive relationship between students and law enforcement. In the 6 years that I've been a school resource officer, I couldn't count how many positive interactions I have had with students and their families. It has been a privilege to work with the students, families, and school staff.

Deputy Matt Reeves - Beverley Manor Middle School & North River Elementary School

Before becoming a School Resource Officer, I worked in Court Security and Transportation for the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office. Helping a child through a crisis in their life is one of the best things about being a School Resource Officer. ACSO and the SROs work hard at building a strong positive relationship between law enforcement and the student body of the schools we serve.

Deputy Casey Parady - Wilson Memorial High School & Wilson Elementary School

Before becoming a School Resource Officer, I worked as a patrol officer. One of the best things about being a School Resource Officer is being able to provide positive experiences for the students with law enforcement. The safety of students and staff is our number one priority and we are continuously working to provide a safer environment as well as developing positive relationships with our students.

Deputy Rachel Mazzariello - Wilson Middle School, Valley Academy Regional Alternative School, & The Shenandoah Valley Center for Advanced Learning

Before becoming a School Resource Officer in ACPS, I was an SRO at another department. The absolute best thing about being an SRO is being able to build a relationship with our growing youth, hoping to have a positive impact on them. I want our youth to know that we are on their side. I want students and families to know that our Sheriff focuses on the safety of our children, and training for his SROs to be fully equipped. If it’s opening a ketchup packet to an emergency that requires a quick response.

Deputy Bethany Boury - Cassell Elementary School

Before becoming an SRO, I was fortunate enough to spend the last couple of years being a stay-at-home mom to my daughter. This was a hiatus from my law enforcement career where I previously worked midnight patrol for another jurisdiction. I recently transitioned into the role of an SRO from our patrol division at the Augusta County Sheriff's Office after completing my field training. The best thing about being an SRO in ACPS is the relationships that you build with the students and the staff. I love being a part of the community within the school system. I want the students and families to know that my mission as an SRO within ACPS is to build relationships and provide security to the students and the school. As a parent myself, I want to be able to send my child to school with the comfort of knowing that there is someone there to protect them and help keep them safe. I hope to give that same sense of security to parents and know that I am there to help these students thrive in their school environment.

Deputy Noel McManaway - Buffalo Gap High School, Churchville Elementary School, & Craigsville Elementary School

I started my career with the Department of Corrections and then worked in the Patrol Division for the Augusta County Sheriff's Office before becoming a School Resource Officer. Being able to work with the kids and be a positive influence for them is the best thing about being a School Resource Officer.  ACSO and the SROs are always here to help.

Deputy Bob Hildebrand - Churchville Elementary School & Craigsville Elementary School

Before becoming a School Resource Officer, was a welder.  One of the best things about being a School Resource Officer is the students!! I really care about each and every student. School Resource Officers really do care about the students and that is one of the top priorities for Sheriff Smith.

Deputy Trevor Foote - Stuarts Draft High School & Stump Elementary School

Before becoming a School Resource Officer, I worked as a patrol officer. One of the best things about being a School Resource Officer is the opportunity to help kids make positive changes regardless of their situation. School Resource Officers are not just here to enforce the law but to build positive relationships between law enforcement and young adults.

Deputy Eric Metlenko - Stuarts Draft Middle School & Stuarts Draft Elementary School

Before becoming a School Resource Officer, I worked as a Patrol Deputy. The support and appreciation received from staff and students at the school is one of the best parts of being a School Resource Officer. Our main priority is the security and safety of everyone within the school. We will do what is needed to make sure everyone gets home safely.
