Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology, as defined by IDEA, is "any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of children with disabilities."

Assistive Technology provides equipment and materials to help students with disabilities access the curriculum. We work together with teachers and related service providers to problem solve access and find solutions. Some examples of assistive technology could be using switches, touch screen technology, pencil grips or writing aids, positioning aids, Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) devices or books, apps and software for supplemental academics, adapted materials, AND SO MUCH MORE!

Assistive Technology differs from other educational technology in that it is individualized whereas educational technology is available for ALL students.
