Remembering Mr. John Ward, ACPS School Board Member (2016-2026)

It is with deep sadness that Augusta County Public Schools announces the passing of Mr. John Ward, our beloved School Board member for the Riverheads District. Mr. Ward passed away Saturday afternoon at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Ward's legacy of service to our community was extraordinary. As a three-term member of the Augusta County School Board, a dedicated English teacher at Riverheads High School, a steadfast school volunteer, and a pastor, he embodied servant leadership in every role he held. His kindness and selflessness knew no limits, and his unwavering commitment to our students and staff will be profoundly missed.

“Augusta County Schools has lost a friend and an outstanding School Board member. I had the honor of teaching with Mr. Ward and serving on the Board with him over the last ten years. He was deeply dedicated to his community and to every student in our school division. I know firsthand the soft spot he held in his heart for students who needed extra support and care at school,” said David Shiflett, School Board Chairman.

We are forever grateful for his exemplary leadership and the positive impact he made on our school division. Please keep Mr. Ward's family, friends, colleagues, and the congregation of Raphine Christian Church in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
