Postsecondary Planning

In general, students will spend approximately 720 days in high school. While students may sometimes think that life moves slowly, the reality is that high school goes by in the blink of an eye. From the first day of high school, students should begin to think about their postsecondary plans (i.e. life after Fort Defiance High School) with both an earnestness and a curiosity to discover plans they never even thought possible.

Upon graduating high school, students generally take one of five paths:

  • Four-year college/university

  • Two-year college/university

  • Vocational training/apprenticeships

  • Military enlistment

  • Employment

Each path has its own pros and cons and students should carefully consider all options available to them. Each student has his/her own unique qualities, strengths and aspirations. As such, there is no "one-size-fits all" to postsecondary planning. As a school and as a school counseling department, we are here to help students navigate their 720 school days while also planning for the future. Feel free to contact your school counselor at any time and we will do our best to assist.
