Sole Source Procurement

School board policy and laws for the State of Virginia require maximizing competition during procurement of products and services. Sole source procurement represents a unique exception to the regulatory requirement for competition and is subject to review. The definition of sole source is a product or service practicably available only from one source. Price is not a factor in determining if a product/service is sole source.

Written justification of why a purchase is deemed sole source is required. Request must be approved by the Purchasing Department prior to completion of a requisition and purchase order.
