Augusta County School board provides employees who work more than 30 hours per week the opportunity to participate in a voluntary benefit plans. Access to benefit summary documents, program publications, rate information and important notices is available at www.augusta.k12.va.us/benefits.

United Concordia Dental Insurance

Coverages offered include a Low Option and High Option plan. Employees pay the entire cost of coverage.

Both options cover diagnostic and preventive care services at 100%, and basic services at 80% after a $50 annual deductible. The high option adds specific major services coverage at 50% after annual deductible.  Please refer to the Summary of Benefits posted on the website.

AFLAC Critical Illness/Accident Insurance

Accident Insurance – Provides medical expense coverage, up to $500, for injuries caused by accident. Employee can purchase 24-hour a day coverage for themselves or dependents.

Critical Illness Insurance – Provides medical expense coverage, for specified illnesses (includes heart attack, stroke, and cancer). Employee can purchase low plan or high plan option.

Hospital Indemnity Insurance – Provides financial assistance to enhance employees current hospital benefits. Includes assistance for hospital confinement, admissions, intensive care and intermediate ICU step-down unit.

403(b) Tax-Sheltered Plans

Employees of public educational institutions and certain tax-exempt organizations are eligible to participate in a 403(b) tax-deferred retirement plan.  These tax-sheltered annuity plans allow you to make pre-tax contributions by payroll deduction and save that money for retirement.

Flexible Spending Accounts (January 1 through December 31 Plan Year)

Medical Reimbursement Account – Benefit allows employee to use pre-tax dollars to pay for qualified medical expenses. You can deduct up to $3,050 per calendar year. This plan allows carry-over of up to $610 of unused dollars remaining at the end of the plan year for expenses incurred the following year.

Dependent Care Reimbursement Account – Benefit allows employee to use pre-tax dollars to pay for qualified dependent care expenses. You can deduct up to $5,000 per calendar year.

Run-Out Period to turn in expenses after the end of the plan year is 2 months. The Run-Out Period ends on February 28 each year. Unclaimed funds will be forfeited.

PLEASE NOTE: Specific enrollment periods apply to the flexible benefits plan. New hires have 30 days from the date of hire to enroll.  The annual open enrollment period takes place during the month of October for a January 1 benefit effective date.  Participation is not automatic and requires online enrollment to be completed prior to coverage becoming effective.

Workers’ Compensation Benefits

If an employee suffers a workplace injury or illness, they may be eligible to receive Workers' Compensation benefits.

  1. Injuries should be reported first to the building supervisor

  2. Injured worker contacts the workers’ compensation insurance carrier by calling the following the Company Nurse Injury Hotline at 1-888-770-0925.

The workers’ compensation insurance carrier will determine if a claim is compensable. If the claim is denied, employees own medical insurance would cover expenses after the initial visit.
